Turbulent Channel Flow

Particle tracking in turbulent channel flows plays a crucial role in many industrial and environmental applications. The ability to track the movement and behavior of particles in fluid flow enables a better understanding of various phenomena such as particle-particle interactions, particle-wall interactions, and particle transport and deposition. These insights are critical for industries such as oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and many more where particle suspensions and suspensions with particulates are processed and transported. Furthermore, particle tracking can also be used to study environmental issues such as the dispersal of pollutants, sediment transport in rivers, and transport of algae in lakes. The range of applications of particle tracking in turbulent channel flows highlights the importance of this field and the need for continued research and development.

Particulate channel flows refer to the flow of mono-dispersed particles within a turbulent channel. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are commonly used to study such flows and to gain a better understanding of the behavior and interactions between the particles and the fluid. In this chapter, we present the results of a CFD study of particulate channel flows at two different shear Reynolds numbers, Re=150 and Re=590. The high quality results obtained from these simulations provide insights into the characteristics of mono-dispersed particle behavior in turbulent channel flows.
